I got a twitter when I was 16, and began following my sisters and a lot of their friends, along with some famous people. I did it to keep up with what was going on in my sisters social life a bit more, and to see what different stars were up to. It might be helpful to use twitter in my future career so I can keep up with my clients personal life a little more. This will help me grasp a better understanding of the daily interactions that my clients have on social media with others, and how it may be affecting their mental health.
Digital divide is when there is a gap between different areas within many socioeconomic levels through technology. Students who have easier access to technology tend to do better in school, whereas those in more rural areas have less access to technology, therefore not doing as well in school because they couldn't look up certain things. There are many causes of a digital divide, some of these being the access and funds to pay for the internet, and having the motivation to learn how to use the internet and different technological devices. I feel as a teacher, the different areas that people come from would be my biggest issue with getting my students to do assignments online, because not every one of my students will have that access back home, so I have to find a solution for every child.
Academic software is a tool that can help students better understand what they are being taught in the classroom. One software tool I think I would use in my classroom would be interactive online books of some sort in order to help the kids better grasp what they are trying to read. As well as educational games that teach them how to spell words, and put sentences together properly. There are so many good resources and tools that I could and would use in my future classroom, those are just two that I loved as a kid that I know helped me personally.
Badges are little "awards" that people get for certain things. Personally, I do not love badges because I think that they don't symbolize anything important, but if I were to give it to a young child who doesn't know that yet, it would be useful. I used to get badges when I was in elementary school, but once I got into 3rd or 4th grade, I started to realize that everyone was getting a badge, not just the students who were being the best they could be. I have earned badges for reading books, for being a good student, for working hard, etc. and I did share them with about 98% of my class back in elementary school since pretty much everyone got one.
Hi SC,
ReplyDeleteI think your point on using twitter for checking on those who may be having issues with their mental health is a really good one. Mental health for students is crucial and the fact that you would care about your students' mental health as a teacher is a really nice thought.
Hi SC! I liked the academic software you would use in your classroom! Reading can be boring for some students, so an interactive online book is such a great tool to get them engaged while also learning at the same time. A game that teaches students to spell different words and make proper sentences is also a great resource to make learning fun! These are great ideas to implement in your classroom to help your students learn.
